Western Grove Urban Park

A brand new park just opened up in the Chevy Chase Village. The 1.9 acre area is within walking distance of the Friendship Heights Metro Station and is next to the Chevy Chase shopping center. The park puts a new 21st century twist on recreation and includes:

Western Grove Urban Park Greenery

  • Nature play area
  • Stone terrace with tables and chairs
  • Human sundial
  • Lighted paths
  • Tall trees
  • Wi-Fi

You read that correctly. This park DOES have Wi-Fi. It is the first park in the Montgomery Parks system to feature this. Meredith Wellington, Chair of ‘Friends of Western Grove Park’, said, “It’s about preserving the natural landscape and creating a place for contemplation and also bringing parks into the 21st century.”

The park was first looked into 15 years ago. Chevy Chase Village and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission split the cost of buying the property in 2002. And shortly after, they began tree and building removal. On October 29th, the park had its grand opening. Check out the park for yourself at 5409 Grove Street, Chevy Chase, MD 20815.
