Alot happened this year in Bethesda and the surrounding area. Here are the top 7 events from 2017!

  1. Tornado Touchdown in Silver Spring

On June 19th, an EF-0 Tornado went through the Northwood Park neighborhood. It left multiple families displaced and caused a significant amount of damage to their homes.

2. The Addition of the Purple Metro Line & the Protesters

In September, the DC Metro announced that they will be constructing a new Purple line to add to the metro system. This new line will connect Bethesda to PG county. With the announcement came immediate closing of the ever so popular Capital Crescent Trail. And because of this, huge protests came.

3. Western Grove Urban Park Opening

A brand new park opened up in Chevy Chase Village. The park puts a new 21st-century spin on recreation.

4. Two Pedestrians were Hit in a Church Parking Lot

After a church service, an elderly couple were struck by a car leaving the parking lot. Both were transported to a trauma center.

5. Bethesda Schools Made Top 100 List

11 schools in Bethesda made their way onto’s best public elementary school list. 65 of the 100 were in Montgomery County.

6. Huge Nor’easter Storm

Storm Stella dumped nearly half a foot of snow on Maryland. A type of storm the state hadn’t seen in years.

7. Bethesda Ranks in Top 10 Places to Live

Bethesda made another one of’s top list. The area was ranked as the 7th best place to live based on their public schools, family accommodation, diversity, nightlife, and housing.
